Detroit — a city known for the Motown genre of music. This Michigan city is the largest in the state and, with an estimated 670,031 residents, the most populous one as well. It also serves as the seat of Wayne County.

Apart from its lasting influence on music, though, Detroit is famous for many other things. It has an active sports scene, with three major sports venues in the city alone. It also has a thriving economy and is home to several large corporations, including three Fortune 500 companies.

It’s hard to talk about Detroit without mentioning the city’s architecture. The city boasts many architectural monuments (Guardian Building, Fisher Building, and more) and has one of the most famous skylines in the country. It was even the first U.S. city to receive a “City of Design” designation by UNESCO.

Other than that, Detroit is home to countless cultural attractions, including the Fox Theatre, Michigan Central, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, the Motown Museum, the Charles H. Wright Museum, and Greenfield Village. 

Additionally, the city boasts many nature-related attractions, such as the Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, and the Detroit Riverfront. In terms of historic places and districts, Detroit offers no shortage of that either. Downtown and Midtown, in particular, are overflowing with historic places, though other neighborhoods also have them.
